Brocade Announces Innovations to VCS Fabric Technology
SAN JOSE, CA: Brocade Communications Systems, a provider of networking solutions, announces innovations to the Brocade VCS fabric technology in two areas – Brocade VCS fabric portfolio enhancements and open, software-driven ecosystem integration with other parts of the data center infrastructure.
VCS fabric technology provides data center with automation and efficiency. It is designed with scale-out network architecture and new, advanced programmability to improve IT agility. It allows organizations to transition smoothly to elastic networks in highly virtualized cloud environments.

VCS Fabric Portfolio Enhancements
VCS fabric portfolio includes Brocade VDX 6940 switch delivering the highest port density in a fixed switch. It is available as a 40 GbE optimized switch in a 1 Unit form factor or a 10GbE optimized switch with up to 100 GbE uplinks in a 2 Unit form factor. These switches are designed to simplify network architecture, deliver line-rate performance on all ports, reduce operational and capital expenses. The new VCS Fabric enhancement comes with unique balance between buffer and latency to address dynamic data center environment.
VDX 6940 has various features such as density and flexibility; zero- touch scale out; unmatched simplicity and automation; maximum efficiency and resiliency and open programmability.
Brocade VDX network infrastructure integrates with data center ecosystem through advanced programmability, software-defined networking (SDN), virtualization support, cloud orchestration and DevOps integration enabling customers to operate their data centers in an easy and efficient manner.
Open, Software-Driven Ecosystem Integration with Other Parts of the Data Center Infrastructure
SDN: It enables the network to participate in dynamic infrastructure operations to deliver capabilities such as automated provisioning, programmatic management, service chaining, and integration with cloud orchestration. Brocade released Brocade Vyatta controller based on OpenDaylight controller. Upcoming Brocade Network OS 6.0 allows integration of Brocade switches with Vyatta controller via support of OpenFlow 1.3 to provide a smooth migration to SDN.
Cloud Orchestration: Creating Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), building network architecture, managing capital and operating expenses become a significant challenge for on-demand services. To that end, Brocade delivers OpenStack support for Brocade VDX switch family. The company adds Inter VLAN routing and Firewall as a Service (FWaaS) to its OpenStack Cloud implementation.
DevOps: To support DevOps initiatives Brocade NOS 6.0 will support Python and Puppet scripting across the Brocade VDX switch series
Expanded VMware Integration: Brocade partners with VMware to improve integration of virtualized servers and NSX-based virtual networks with physical networking infrastructure. With this integration, Brocade offers IP Analytics Pack for VMware vRealize Operation enabling virtual and physical networking to deliver simplicity, scalability, and efficient resource utilization.
